Amazon.com Product Description
Bring your Sirius satellite radio receiver to life with this essential plug 'n' play boombox. Compatible with the Sirius Sportster 3, Sportster 4, Starmate 3, Starmate 4, and Stratus receivers, the boombox lets you follow the game or rock out on the patio to any of Sirius's high-quality digital streams. Simply plug your Sirius receiver into the boombox's universal docking cradle and you're set. Listeners will love the SUB-X1's rich, crisp sound, which employs two tweeters, two midrange drivers, and a powerful subwoofer to create a dynamic frequency response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz. The reception is also topnotch thanks to the included indoor/outdoor antenna, which comes with an attached 19.5-foot cable (the antenna must have a relatively clear view of the Sirius satellite paths to work).

Most importantly, the boombox is fully portable, with a built-in handle for transport and a battery power option (the boombox runs for up to nine hours on eight D-cell batteries). And you needn't worry about hauling the antenna along in a separate bag, because the SUB-X1 includes a built-in compartment that stores both the antenna and cable. Other details include a 3.5 mm headphone jack for private listening, an AC adapter for indoor use, built-in bass enhancement technology, an auxiliary input for connecting an iPod, MP3 player, or other audio device, and a docking adapter that works with ST and SV series Sirius satellite tuners. The boombox, which measures 19.18 by 8.81 by 8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7.3 pounds (without batteries), is backed by a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
SUB-X1 universal boombox, AC adapter with 6-foot cord, satellite antenna with 19.5- foot cable, plastic docking adapter, user's manual.

3 out of 5 stars Great sound, portability not so much   June 8, 2010
One Wolf (Raleigh, NC)
The sound quality of this box is great and for that purpose only, it gets 5 stars. I do love loud sirius radio.

The only negatives associated with this unit are around the external wiring (antenna and power).

1. The AC power has a very big and bulky DC converter inline - it is pretty much on par with a laptop AC power cord and adaptor. There is no place on the box to store the AC power cord/adaptor (or any power cord) so basically you wad it up and carry it separately - plug end dangling usually. I carry a separate bag for the ac and DC (not included) cables.

2. The antenna wire is very long, which is good if you need to run it a long way, but if you don't have it run a long way (which you usually don't if you're out and about) - there are two opposing L-shaped plastic clips on the back that you wrap the extra wire around. So far so good. But, when the antenna wire is wrapped around those two L-shaped posts, the wires end up completely covering the AC jack (and the antenna jack for that matter) so that it's very difficult to plug the AC power cord into the jack. What you have to do is pry the wad of wrapped anntena wire out of the way and force the AC power cable male plug into the jack that's hiding behind the wrapped up antenna wire you're prying out of the way. Once you're plugged in, then you're fine until you have to unwrap the antenna a loop or two for reception - because now the power cord is coming from the inside of the looped up antenna cable with the other end plugged into the wall - so you either have to hand the antenna around and around the power cord as you unwrap the antenna wire - or unplug the power cord, unwrap the antenna, then go through the exercise of replugging the power cord in beyind the remaining anntenna wires again. Not a huge deal, but a pain in the neck when you're trying to be quick and portable outside on the deck, at the pool, etc. and worst of all it's completely unnecessary if they had just planned a little better.

Overall very nice sound but not at all well thought out from a usability and portability perspective when it comes to the antenna and power cords. Not that everything has to be as user friendly as an iGadget but a couple of thought out design considerations here (AC/DC converter built in the box, storage for AC cable, AC cable plug not placed directly under the antenna wire storage spot) would have made it really slick.

I am very happy with this product. It was incredibly easy to set up and use - and I'm not a tech savvy person. I think the sound quality is great. Although I purchased mostly so I could listen to Howard Stern, I was pleasantly surprised by the music sound quality (I for one do like a little more bass, so it's fine without being able to adjust the sound). I enjoy Sirius so much more now that I have it in the house.

I am very satisfied with this product. Sounds great and performs like I hoped it would for the money I paid.

4 out of 5 stars Great Plug 'n' Play Boombox   June 9, 2009

This is a great product for the price. I have used it for over three weeks now without any problems. It would be even better, if there was a control to regulate the bass. The cord storage area for the indoor/outdoor antenna is adequate but not the best. All in all this product earns between a 7 and 8 out of a possible ten.
