Please don't buy this July 13, 2010 ryanjvv I was expecting mediocre, at best, from this unit, but received much worse. The CD player would not even begin to play any of the disks I tried. It would simply spin, 'clank', then stop. I knew to expect poor sound quality, yet I was still disappointed with the 'dented tin can' sound of this product. I believe this radio is unsuitable for any application. Just hum to yourself instead.
This item is great!! May 5, 2010 Chris Campbell (Commerce City, CO USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This item is great! It comes with a power cord, a cord to plug in your mp3 player, and most of all, it can go loud without the sound being all scratchy! I would definitely recommend this item to anyone, since it also has a remote control to go with playing CDs. And I use this box mostly to play CDs. It's highly recommended that you get batteries for this stereo. If you're listening to a cd, or any other type of media, and you accidently unplug the power cord from the device, the batteries INSTANTLY kick in without any interruption to what you were listening to.
Substandard is an understatement! February 2, 2010 JustTheFacts2010 GPX Portable CD Boombox with AM/FM Stereo and Digital Display --
I was hesitant to purchase a GPX brand, associating the name with cheap electronics sold in drugstores, but decided to take my chances as this player had all the features I was looking for in a portable CD player. I wanted to have both the auxillary input and the headphone output. This player has both. I liked the looks and size also. When I got home and tried it out it was a major disappointment. I have never heard of a more substandard performing product before in my life. I played a CD on it and it sounded terrible. Very "tinny" combined with a slight static noise and the volume doesn't turn up very loud either. The radio has awful reception on both AM and FM. Stations I can get on every other radio in the house would barely come in scratchy sounding on this GPX. And the digital tuner is not really a digital tuner. You turn the knob and the display shows a digital station readout, except that when you get the station tuned in as good as it can possibly be, the digital readout of the station you are supposed to be on is so far off you have to wait for station identification to see if you are really on the station you tried to turn to. I couldn't wait to go return it this morning and I was annoyed with Sears for selling such an inferior quality product to begin with. I bought this for $29.99 and I wouldn't have kept it in my house if it were given to me for free. I'm serious. Beware before spending any money on this. What you are going to get is the hassle of having to return it.
*~*~*~DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF CRAP~CD PLAYER=JUNK~*~*~* December 18, 2009 Mommy of Cuties M & Z (USA) If you are planning on buying this to play CD's, let me save you some time. Take your money, head to toilet, place money in toilet, flush money down toilet. Now check some reviews, pay a little more money and get a cd player that will actually work.
My husband bought this at our local store one day after work to use in our 6 month old twins nursery, along with a lullaby cd. My girls had been sleeping in their swing up to that point and they played music all night but we were moving the girls to their cribs and they will only sleep w/ noise all night long.
I was happy when I first tried this out because it has the repeat button that can continually repeat the entire cd until you turn it off....or so I thought. It did sound pretty good too. For the first week this thing worked really well.
PROBLEMS: About a week(maybe even less) after we started using this my girls would wake up in the middle of the night crying because this stupid cd player would show "Err"(error message) and stop playing. I would have to turn it on and off, sometimes several times to get it to start playing again BUT then it would only sometimes keep playing. It normally would only play 1 or 2 more songs before "Err" would cause it to stop playing again. So we tried to use the CD player for about 2 more weeks but since it stopped playing & woke my girls up EVERY night or during their naps we stopped using the CD player. We actually put it on a radio station and play that when they sleep.
It has been over 6 months since we had used the CD player so I tried it out again 2 days ago. It actually played continually for a little over an hour before I turned it off. Then I tried it again yesterday and it would not even play at all, it just said "Err" so I won't try to use the piece of junk CD player again.
So if you are buying this for a CD player, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It works ok for a radio but if you are only wanting a radio you can get a plain radio for less money.
NOTE: If you decide to flush your money down the toilet, be sure to have the plunger handy just in case : )
Cheap. You get what yo pay for.... December 17, 2009 D.Jay (Gretna, LA) I guess you get what you pay for. It was only supposed to be used for CD playing for a child. The cd player stopped working after 4 months. Get something better for a couple of dollars extra.
