This is a great boombox...we have really had a hard time finding one that had great sound, quality construction ( is it just me or do most of them now weigh like 2 pounds, cheap, cheap )AND played cassettes and this was it. The only draw back is that it is sort of ridiculous looking but it sounds so great that is quickly overlooked.

The Sony CFDG505 was ordered to use outdoors, mainly car camping and when working out of the garage. The sound quality is okay, probably the best sounding boombox I have bought(only had 2 others). It is pretty heavy in weight,big, and kind of funky looking. All the controls worked, and there was no problems in figuring out how to use it. I pretty much wanted something that had a radio and CD player, and also cheap. This fits the bill. The build quality is not great, rather flimsy feeling. Within the first hour of use, the antenna broke off, there was too much tension to allow it to rotate freely. Instead of buying a new antenna, I was able to fix it. The antenna design is poor, not enough support near the base, making it likely to shear off. I have a doubt that this unit will last for more than a year or so...Since it was cheap in price, I will overlook the shortcomings, but I would not buy this again, and would not recommend to anyone unless they were looking for an inexpensive boombox for the short term.

If it's great sound and eases of use you are looking for, look no further. This Boom Box delivers all you could ever ask for. I really like this product and have no problem exploting it's vertues to whoever asks, "Where ever did you get that music box, it sounds wonderful."

As owners of 2 smaller Sony portable CD/Radio/Cassette, this was an upgrade for our 14 yr. old son.
He wanted a boombox. I have heard 70's and 80's boomboxes that guys in the barracks used to use. Name brands like JVC.
Those boxes had a lot of muscle and sounded great. Fast forward to 2009 and here we have one of the best sounding portable players.
The 3 step bass control is a nice feature. At max bass, this player holds up very well. Doesn't wash out, break up, nothing. 20 watts RMS.Powerful. This has a five speaker system. 2 tweeters, 2 mid ranges and the bass speaker. This will last many years and most likely into my son's dorm room years if he decides to go to college. This CD player is a bit on the heavy side, not a problem if you decide to use it exclusively indoors or out in the yard. If going to the beach with this, start working out during the winter.

I have a hearing deficit and bought Sony-CFDG CD RadioCassette Recorder because of the sound reproduction stars and comments. i knew there was no backlighting but because of the location on the front, it is impossible to read. More important is the too frequent static I get in the lower FM stations, listen primarily to npr and other classic music stations. My 1986! boom box it replaces had no static in the same location. The box/weight/size is just too big/heavy to return! I will have to move it to different locations in the room which are not my choice. I appreciate the remote. The CD sound is good. My mistake in purchase, not Amazon's presentation.
